In my own perspective, being equipped with effective communication skills enables you to convey your ideas, through various channels, across to the intended audience comprehensively, without causing any misunderstanding and offense. To me, these skills are very important and useful as there are numerous instances in which my lack of such skills resulted in undesirable situations.
One notable instance would be the problems that I encountered during my job search prior to entering the University. My search for a job was an arduous attempt, made so as a result of my inadequate skills at writing effective resumes and presenting myself in front of an audience. I realized that possessing both effective oral and written communication skills are vital in presenting a good first impression to potential employers.
Furthermore, in my various attempts at corresponding with different parties, I have come to realize the ease at which the slightest of poor body languages and tone can be all it takes for a great deal of misunderstandings. It is therefore the reason why I myself, along with many others around me, place high emphasis on a good set of communication skills as a means of accurately and concisely relating our thoughts to others.
In conclusion, effective communication is a skill that is essential in various aspects of one’s life, in the family, amongst peers, or even at the workplace. In fact, such a skill is so vitally important that often it stands as a key ingredient to a successful and well-accomplished life.

By being aware yopu've actually taken the first step towards more savvy communication Eric. Just work on it a little at a time and you'll be fine.
"I realized that possessing both effective oral and written communication skills are vital in presenting a good first impression to potential employers."
I agree with you completely on that. In this day and age it goes without saying the importance of first impressions in practically any scenario. That, I suppose, is the reason why so many people today are eagerly taking up courses on communication and managing interpersonal relations.
In addition, I personally feel that everyone has the ability to communicate properly. Sometimes it is all just a matter of believing in his or her own natural qualities. What we often notice around us, is that in an effort to 'acquire' communication skills, some people tend to forget the fundamental nature of communication itself. They'd tend to take in these skills like a set of algorithms, and attempt to apply them individually, where ever they see fit.
Yet the elements of communication do not work alone. Rather, they have to come together in harmonious unison in order to deliver. This, at the same time, ensures that the final product is not construed as something robotic, fake, or even constipated.
Communication is something we, as humans, have been doing ever since we were born. For me, the most fundamental yet often forgotten element of communication is the need to be natural. To acknowledge one's natural ability to communicate is, in my view, the most important step to being a confident, convincing and cogent communicator.
Believe in yourself, my friend!
Nice post Mr Yakizuya(Eric). It was a pleasure learning about and from your experiences with regards to effective communication.
Especially when one is communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds, the interpretation of body language may vary. If one is too self-conscious about sending out the wrong messages via body language, it may hinder one's progress towards effective communication. A good start would be to analyse one's own non-verbal habits.
For instance, someone may interpret the act of looking at the watch while the other party is speaking as insulting. It's as if what was spoken was not worth the other's time. The question here is, does the person committing the "act" mean it? In other words, it is first important to know which habits one is unconsciously doing that could potentially give the wrong signals. After correcting those, it will then be easier to communicate with confidence, knowing that you aren't giving out the wrong messages.
Thank you all for your valuable comments!
